Prayers and Determinism

Sun Feb 1, 2009, 7:32 PM
I pray that I have the wisdom to understand, accept, and appreciate all things of life, the compassion to love others, and the courage to change things for the better.

I believe that everything happens for a reason, though not in the traditional sense of that phrase. I mean people do evil things, people hate and hurt, and I believe that if we tried hard enough, we could understand the reasons for the paths they take.

What drives us to choose right instead of wrong sometimes, where others might not? We may have had an advantage in some way, such as more supportive friends, better socio-economic status, one less bad experience in our personal life, or just had a good day. Likewise, if this was not the case, perhaps we would have also chosen wrong. What if we could hate not the person for the wrong they did, but the disadvantages they suffered that pushed them towards the wrong?

Regardless of whether determinism is true or not, we believe our actions are performed for reasons, and these reasons are based on our pre-existing knowledge and experiences. And if we judge that an action is performed without reason, then the reason is madness or perhaps unconscious reasons. Either of these are reasons nevertheless; an act of insanity is excused because it comes from a damaged neurological system.

Hi Philip,
I'm on the lookout for photographers to present in monthly events and I would like to talk to you more about it. I've sent you a note with my email address so that we can contact each other through there rather than deviantART.

Cheers!
